HVEDC Welcomes New York Streets Arena Football Team CEO Corey Galloway to Its Board of Directors

Galloway is founder & chairman of Legacy Growth Partners, first African-American sports owner in NY history

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (April 4, 2019) – Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC), which has announced its intent to merge with the Westchester County Association (WCA), welcomed Corey Galloway, Founder & Chairman, Legacy Growth Partners, LLC (LGP), and Chief Executive Officer of the LGP-owned New York Streets, New York’s newest professional sports franchise.

Galloway, a New York-based investor and philanthropist, founded LGP in 2007. Under his leadership, the company has grown into a driving force for strategic business development and direct investment in the region. Harvard Business School has noted LGP for its last three investments, which have yielded 260% increases in value since investment. In 2016, LGP was selected as one of just nine developers to join prestigious partners such as Goldman Sachs to lead the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development’s New Infill Homeownership Opportunities program, to which LGP has committed $20 million to create affordable housing for low-income families in Brooklyn’s East New York and Brownsville neighborhoods.

Galloway also serves as CEO of the LGP-owned National Arena League football team, the New York Streets. Set to kick off its inaugural season later this month, the Streets are New York’s newest professional sports franchise, and Galloway’s acquisition was heralded by news outlets including The Associated Press, Newsday, Essence and the NY Daily News – who noted Galloway’s historic station as the “first black sports owner in New York history.” The Streets will play their home games at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

“I am thrilled and honored to join the esteemed Board of HVEDC and contribute to its bold vision for the continued economic success of the Hudson Valley and Westchester,” said Galloway. “As a longtime resident of New Rochelle and owner of the New York Streets, which calls Westchester County Center our home, I look forward to giving back to this community.”

Galloway and LGP are also majority stakeholders in Brooklyn Lifestyle Athletic Club (BKLA). BKLA is the largest sports, recreation and education complex in the five boroughs and serves as corporate offices and training facility for the Streets. Formerly known as PacPlex, BKLA is scheduled for a multi-million dollar renovation and rebranding that will exponentially grow its membership, programming, revenue and community impact. Galloway is a Trustee of the New Rochelle Public Library, serves as a member of Westchester Clubmen and is a Scout leader. Prior to founding LGP, he served as Director of Operations and Finance at MTV Animation department and Director of Global Production at Sesame Workshop.

“Corey brings over 20 years of proven finance, operations, marketing and leadership experience with him to our organization,” said Mike Oates, President and CEO of HVEDC. “He is also passionate about community, demonstrated by his spearheading and support of projects that have created growth and development opportunities for people and places. We are excited to welcome him to our Board.”

The Boards of Directors of HVEDC and the WCA announced on January 29 the intent to pursue a merger of the two organizations, creating a leading economic development and business advocacy organization in New York State. The new organization unites a shared strategic mission and vision of HVEDC and the WCA. It will build on their economic development strategies, which are designed to diversify and strengthen the Hudson Valley economy.
