HVEDC Welcomes Ned Sullivan of Scenic Hudson to its Advisory Board

GOSHEN, N.Y. (October 29, 2018) – Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC) announced the appointment of Ned Sullivan, President of Scenic Hudson, to its advisory board.

Since 1999, Sullivan has served as president of the organization that helps citizens and communities preserve land and farms, and create parks where people experience the outdoors and enjoy the Hudson River. During Sullivan’s tenure, the organization has experienced dramatic growth in the impact it has around the region.

In that time, Scenic Hudson has become recognized as a regional and national leader in its field. In 2007, it received the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal, and in 2011, it earned the Land Trust Alliance’s National Land Trust Excellence Award.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to help advance the job-creating mission of HVEDC,” said Sullivan. “Protecting the Hudson Valley’s irreplaceable natural assets is critical for sustaining the region’s prosperity, its residents’ health and their outstanding quality of life – all of which attract new jobs. I look forward to working with HVEDC to continue its strong advocacy for local businesses and organizations and a bright future for the Hudson Valley.”

Under Sullivan’s leadership, Scenic Hudson has developed partnerships that have made it possible to preserve thousands of acres of open space and farmland, while also cleaning up some contaminated waterfronts, turning them into beautiful public parks that can be enjoyed by everyone. The organization also played important roles in major projects such as the Walkway Over the Hudson, the Dia:Beacon museum and daylighting the Saw Mill River in Yonkers.

Sullivan has also served as deputy commissioner of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, and in 2011 was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to be the only environmental representative on his economic development council.

“Ned brings a unique environmental background that is an excellent addition to our team, which is primarily focused on business and economics,” said Mike Oates, President and CEO of HVEDC. “He is a tremendous advocate for the Hudson Valley, and we believe he is a perfect fit for the HVEDC Advisory Board.”
