Disney Publishing to Move HQ to White Plains
(May 19, 2007) - Disney Publishing Worldwide, the largest publisher of children's books and magazines in the world, intends to move its headquarters from Manhattan to White Plains, New York, this fall. The anticipated move, which should be complete by December, will transfer about 175 jobs to the Westchester city.
"It is important to accommodate our future growth," said April Hattori, Vice President of Communications for Disney Publishing Worldwide. "We wanted to move to a state-of-the-art facility."
According to press reports, Disney found that the rent was less expensive at the White Plains location than the current home of the publishing operation on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The move, however, has less to do with saving on rent than finding an ideal space with expanded conference facilities and a layout conducive to teamwork, Ms. Hattori said.
Disney Publishing traces its history to the debut of Disney's first comic strip in 1930. With annual sales of nearly $2 billion, Disney Publishing produces 441 children's magazine titles and 160 million children's books in 75 countries.
