| BAYER HEALTHCARE TO EXPAND IN HUDSON VALLEY
Global Healthcare Company Will Create 100 New Jobs, Protect
750
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (November 17, 2005) - Bayer HealthCare LLC
will expand its facility here in the Hudson Valley, creating
100 new jobs and protecting 750 existing employees, it was
announced today by Governor George E. Pataki.
Bayer HealthCare is relocating its Diabetes Care Division
to Tarrytown, New York, from Elkhart, Indiana, in order to
consolidate its North American commercial functions, Bayer
Healthcare headquarters functions and Bayer Diagnostics.
Bayer’s decision to consolidate was strengthened
with the designation as a “Regionally Significant Manufacturer”
by the Empire State Development Corporation at the
request of the Yonkers Empire Zone. A “Regionally
Significant Manufacturer” designation
extends Empire Zone benefits to qualifying companies of
regional economic significance that are located near,
but not in, an Empire Zone.
In consideration of its commitment to New York
State and its designation under the Yonkers Empire Zone
as a “Regionally Significant Manufacturer,” Bayer
HealthCare is eligible for a 10-year tax exemption from state
sales taxes and a refundable tax credit to reimburse the company
for taxes it pays. In addition, the Westchester County
IDA will arrange to exempt the company from local sales taxes
on major purchases.
Bayer HealthCare's Diabetes Care Division is one of the largest
blood glucose monitoring businesses in the world.
The division offers Ascensia blood glucose monitors
for diabetes self-management. Bayer HealthCare’s Diagnostics
Division offers an extensive portfolio of laboratory testing and
near patient care diagnostics systems sold in 100 countries
worldwide.
