Munich Manufacturer Schreiner MediPharm to Open High-Tech Label Plant in Rockland County
(September 25, 2007) - Schreiner MediPharm, headquartered in Munich, Germany, is opening its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Blauvelt, New York. The company makes high-tech labels for the pharmaceutical, medical and automotive industries.
Schreiner is leasing 40,000 square feet at the Bradley Corporate Park and investing $11.5 million in renovations and new equipment. The company will create about 80 new jobs when the facility is fully operational in January 2008.
The company credits New York State's Empire Zone program, which can virtually eliminate taxes for 10 years, with attracting them to the site. Because the company will create more than 50 new manufacturing jobs, the project was designated as "Regionally Significant," which qualifies it for the tax breaks.
"Schreiner wanted to be in the metro New York area to be close to the pharmaceutical industry cluster here and it was looking aggressively at sites in New Jersey," recalled Steve Porath, Director of Economic Development at Rockland Economic Development Corporation, who has been working with the company for the past six months. "It was really the Empire Zone benefits that tipped the scales in our favor and clinched the deal."
